Reading AC Relay Teams Perform at Olympic Stadium

Five Reading AC relay teams competed at London's Olympic Stadium on 22 July 2018 and claimed three new club records in the process.  The U15 Girls attained their second 4x100m record in twenty-four hours and fourth of the season clocking 49.13 secs and finishing second. The U15 boys shaved eight one-hundredths off the previous record with a 45.20 secs performance and a third place.  This result meant that anchor runner Reuben Henry-Daire bagged his fourth club record in twenty-four hours in what surely must be his best weekend ever in athletic competition.  The U17 Men also attained a new club record by 0.83 secs clocking in at 43.57 secs finishing fifth.   The U13 girls narrowly missed the club record with 52.89 secs and a third place with the U13 boys crossing the line in seventh place in a time of 53.38 secs.

Not forgetting the squad reserve runners this was truly an inspiring day for all who participated.

National Final Awaits Reading AC U13s and U15s

Reading ACs U13 and U15 boys and girls have made it through to the national Youth Development League Final at Bedford on 8 September.  With all to play for on the final round of the Premier 1 league being hosted by Havering AC, Reading's athletes fought for every point and on the provisional results managed to win the competition by a single half-point ahead of the the overall league winners Blackheath and Bromley.   Four club records were attained and three of them (200m, 300m and 4x300m) being attained by U15 boy, Reuben Henry-Daire.

Two Reading AC Golds and a Bronze at South of England Combined Events Champs

Reading ACs U20 Jasmine McCallum and U15 Sammy Ball secured gold medals at the South of England Combined Events Championships at Horspath, Oxford on 8 July 2018.  Sammy Ball also attained a new club record for U15 Pentathlon with 2,889 points.  Joe Frew secured a bronze medal also in the U15 event with Matt Kirk missing out on a podium position as a result of difficulties in his shot put.  The athletes were further inspired through discussions with decathlon legend Daley Thompson.

Reading Athletes to compete at Olympic Stadium

Five Reading AC relay squads have again been selected to compete at the prestigious Club:Connect relays at the Olympic Stadium on Sunday 22 July 2018.  The squads selected are U13 Boys, U13 Girls, U15 Boys, U15 Girls and U17 Men and they are all busy practising their baton handovers.  The relays immediately precede the Mueller Anniversary Games which is a Diamond League fixture.

Reading Athletes Through to National Schools Pentathlon Final

Three Reading U15 Boys were in the quartet which won the regional schools pentathlon competition in Ashford, Kent on 23 June 2018.

Reading's Sammy Ball, Reuben Henry-Daire and Matthew Kirk were joined by their Team Kennet colleague Harry Booker and led the competition from start to finish against Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, London, Middlesex and Hertfordshire.

Attaining 2,803 points and finishing in second place, Sammy Ball managed to surpass the previous club record by 175 points in his first ever full pentathlon in the U15 age group.  Reuben finished in fourth place in his first ever pentathlon with 2,486 points and Matthew Kirk came thirteenth out of twenty-eight with 2,323 points.

The team now progress as of right to the national finals in Bedford in mid-September.
