Athletics is a serious business. Whether you are you are 65, 22 or 11, an
aspiring champion long jumper, a keen cross country runner or just want to try your hand at any of the various track and field
sports and keep fit in the process, the first step of course is to join your local athletics club. The next though is to make
sure you have the right kit.
Having suitable footwear and clothes for training and competition is of utmost importance, keeping you comfortable, ensuring as far as possible that your feet, joints and muscles are protected from potential injury, and of course to enhance your athletic performance. There is no need to spend hundreds of pounds on the most expensive trainers though, as if you know what you are looking for, get some good advice, and keep an eye on the sales, you can find the right equipment for you. What is right for your feet and body of course depends entirely on you as an individual. While classic converse shoes are great for hanging out it, they are not recommended for intense athletic exercise. Everything from the type of surface you are running on, the level to which you compete, and the shape and biomechanics of your feet will affect what kind of shoe is most suitable. An excellent every day running trainer that will give you plenty of cushioning and support for your arches is the very reasonably priced Asics Gel Oberon If you are keen on your athletics and are looking for some inspiration you should definitely check out some of the BBC's video masterclasses from some of Britain’s top athletes, or if you are just starting out and want to find out more, visit the UK Athletics website, which should provide you with all the info you need. |
