A small, but special selection of video highlights
of Reading Ac members past and present 1964 Olympics in Tokyo - 800m Women's Final
Here is a highlight clip of Ann Packer, a member of Reading Athletic
Club at the time, competing in Olympic 800m final and winning the Gold Medal. Having been disapointed by her run
in the 400m in which she only won silver! Ann made ammends in the 800m final by winning the gold medal in what was then
a world record time of 2.01.1, which is still the senior club record to this date.
1984 Olympics 4x100 Relay Final for
Women - Los Angeles
The 4x100 Womens Relay Final from 1984. A special
moment for Reading Athletic Club as 3 of the Great Britain team were club members and came through the ranks as youngsters
at Reading Ac. A young Simone Jacobs can be seen on the first leg, Kathy Smallwood can be seen running her usual
second leg, with Beverley Callender running her accustomed third leg. These 3 ladies, combined with Heather Oakes, won
the bronze medal. You can see them here in lane 1, whilst a better view of the Great Britain team can be seen towards the
end of the video. Enjoy!
1982 WAAA Women's 200m Final
Action here from the Women's WAAA 200m Final
in 1982. Here you can see Reading Athletic Club member's Kathy Smallwood-Cook and Bev Callender both in action and finishing
1st and 2nd respectively!
This was just one race in many in which Kathy and Bev dominated the British sprint scene in the early 80's 1980 Moscow Olympics - 4x100 Womens 4x100
Relay
Here is a clip from the 1980 Moscow Olympics
and the 4x100 women's final. Here 2 Reading Ac athletes, Kathy (Smallwood) Cook and Beverley (Goddard) Callender
are part of the team that ran 42.43, which was and still is a British record. Kathy can be seen running leg 2 and Beverley
can be seen running leg 3.
Kathy Cook Highlights on the National stage.
A nice little package showing the highlights of Kathy
Cook. Kathy began her athletics career with Reading Ac and went on to become arguably Britain's most successful female
sprinter of all time. She is the club record holder for the 100m, 200m and 400m events in the senior age groups and still
holds records in some of the younger age groups. She is still the British record holder over 200m and 400m and is a member
of the 4x100 relay team that still holds the British record.
English Schools Junior Girls 100m Final - 2010
And for something a little more recent! Here we see
the English Schools Track and Field Championships Junior Girls 100m Final in which 2 Reading Ac members are in action. In
lane 1, Jessica Pointing representing Berkshire and in lane 3, Lukesha Morris also representing Berkshire.
The video shows Lukesha storming through in the final 30m to win the gold medal, in what was then a personal best of 12.26, with Jessica finishing 5th with 12.62.
