Here you can find infomation on up-coming events at Reading Athletic Club. Whilst also listed below is a look back on the 125th Anniversary events which were held during 2006.

125th Anniversary  1881 - 2006
A Look Back at celebratory events held in recognition of Reading Athletic Club's 125th Anniversary held during 2006
 

January

The club kicked off their 125th Anniversary events in Januray with the first Cross Country fixture of 2006, as they hosted their Hampshire league fixture at Prospect Park. The Mayoress Naeema Chaudri was in attendance and got event's under-way as she was the guest starter for the opening races. As a added bonus, Amber Gascoigne won the Senior Ladies race, also helping the Senior Ladies team to victory on the day, a result that would go towards Reading's Senior Women winning the Hampshire league tite for the first time in their history.

February

February saw a lovely article appear in the top Athletics maazine in the Country, Athletics Weekly. It provided a perfect oppurtunity to advertise the club's landmark year nationally, with a few ex-members getting in contact as a result of it. The Club's Sponsors the Reading Evening Post also featured the club in a special 12 page pull-out in their newspaper, on sports clubs in the Reading area.

March

For the first time in its history, the Mid-week Handicap and Cross Country awards were presented on a Saturday Night as opposed to the usual Tuesday Evening. The evening proved a huge success, with over 170 members in attendance. Such was the success, it looks highly likely that it will now become a regular fixture in the club's calender

April

April saw the club Quadrathlon Championships held at Palmer Park, for the second year running, the Mayor and Mayoress attended to show their support for the club, taking time out to encourage the athletes and then present winners medal's. The competition itself was of a high standard for the early time of the track and field season.

May

May saw the club hold a 125 lap relay, in which current and past members took park, with roughly 200 people attending the day. In conjunction with this a fete was organised by the parent's of club members which also proved a huge success. The day itself was excellent and will long be remebered by those who attended, not only did it provide a re-union for many ex-member's it saw past and present member's combine to celebrate the clubs 125th Anniversary.

June

June's event saw a commemorative plaque un-veiled at Palmer Park Stadium in recognition of the club's land-mark year. Ex-Reading Ac Athlete and current BBC South Today presenter, Sally Taylor came along to unveil the plaque, along with the Mayor of Reading, Bet Tickner. Miss Taylor gave a excellent speach, before un-veiling the plaque, which is now proudly situated on the main stairs inside Palmer Park Stadium.

July

The event for July saw all current member's combine for a mass photograph at Palmer Park Stadium after training. Different Catergories were taken, Mass Athletes, Male Athletes, Female Athletes, Coaches and Club Committee Member's

September

September proved to be a fantastic month for the club, with the Senior Ladies gaining promotion into the UK Womens League for the first time in their history as they gained a historic victory in the play-off match at Abingdon. This led to another fantastic presentation evening the following week, in which the Mayor of Reading and Club Patron, Bet Tickner, came along to help present the awards, and expressed her delight in seeing the club in such a strong position, and how pleasing it was to see so many youngsters enjoying their sport.

October

Theale Social club played venue for Octobers celebratory event, A quiz night. The quiz was hosted by ex-member Bryan Talbot, who did a fantasic job. 14 teams took part over 6 rounds and after it all the team of Tim and Jan Richardson and Brian and Stella Bacon came out on top.

November

November saw the club hold its dinner and dance evening at the Calcot Hotel. The Evening was a huge success and it was with-out doubt the highlight of the year. The day was given a perfect start when the club's Senior Women's track team scooped the AW Sports award for sporting achievement, thanks to their promotion into the UK Womens League. Hours later the Senior Women's Cross Country team won the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Title at Maidenhead. That gave the evening the perfect platform to be the success that it was and was a night that will be remembered for a long time to come.

December

December saw Reading Ac come away with no less than 5 awards at the Reading Sports personality awards evening, on the 11th of December at the Rivermead leisue complex. Reading's Senior ladies won female team of the year, Lee Richardson was awarded the clubman of the year, Jake Felix scooped the Male Schools personality award, Guy Perryman secured the Male Veteran Award, whilst Dawn Kinton was awarded a Helper/Loyalty award. Also during December all Reading Athletic Club Members received commemorative Christmas Cards from the club, with the Main Photo, being one of the photo's taken during the Club Photograph Evening in July, The club's sponsors, the Reading Evening Post also will be putting together a special article, taking a look back at the events celebrated through-out the year.

The club would like to thank everyone who has been involved or took part in any of the 125th Anniversary events during 2006, it has certainly been a year to remember. A special mention, however to the 125th Anniversary committee, who put alot of hard work into the organsing of the events during this fantastic year.
